Communication

I love words, and I love helping people get their words out. Our language is weird and wonderful (trough, bough, through, hiccough, thorough . . . need I say more?), but when the words fit and the sentences flow, magic happens.

Before choosing this path, I worked in a variety of roles over the years – journalist, graphic designer, web designer, desktop publisher – but each career had a common thread: choosing and using the right words to convey a message. As a landscape designer, I interpreted clients’ visions to create successful, tangible designs, learned great communication skills, developed an eagle eye for formatting, and paid obsessively close attention to detail. Combined with my history in journalism and graphic design, a segue into proofreading, editing, and book design made sense.

I hold a Diploma in Journalism from Northland Polytechnic, a Certificate in Copyediting and Proofreading from the NZ Writers College, a Certificate in General Proofreading Theory and Practice from the US (BCP Media Inc – Proofread Anywhere), and a Diploma in Landscape Design from Massey University.

When not working online, I live very much offline and off-grid on a small, fairly remote farm in the hills. It is a beautiful, peaceful spot, and the ever-changing landscape is a constant inspiration. I am mum to two gorgeous girls, and our farm is home to a menagerie of horses, sheep, chickens, ducks, bees, a fluffy pooch, and one fat cat.
